Cell Cycle and Cell DivisionHard
Question
Segregation of Mendelian factro (Aa) occurs during
Options
A.diplotene
B.anaphase -I
C.zygotene / pachytene
D.anaphase -II
Solution
It is anaphase-I of meiosis, under which the maternal and paternal chromosomes of each homologous pair (bivalent) separate out from each other independently of other chromosomes . Centromere does not divide so that poleward movement of both chromatids of a chromosome occur. It results in reduction of chromosome number to half and segregation of Mendelian factors (genes), essential for sexual reproduction. It also brings genetic variation due to inde pendent of homologous chromosomes.
