Question
A bivalent consists of
Options
A.two chromatids and one centromere
B.two chromatids and two centromere
C.four chromatids and two centromere
D.foue chromatids and four centromere
Solution
Each pair of homologous chromosome carrying one maternal and one paternal chromosome of similar type is called bivalent. The bumber of total chromosome in a diploid cell, as seen during synapsis in zygotene stage of meiosis-I. In pachytene, the chromosomes shorten and thickened and their chromatids are now visible. Each chromosome now has two sister chro matids and a centromere. Thus bivalents possesses four chromatids two centromeres . This bivalent with four chromatids is called pachytene tetrad (quadrivalent).
