Question

During endosmosis of water in roots, the water potential of cell sap of root hairs is : -

Options

A.Lower than the water potential of pure water but higher than the water potential of soil solution
B.Higher than the water potential of both pure water and soil solution
C.Higher than the water potential of pure water but lower than the water potential of soil solution
D.lower than the water potential of both pure water and soil solution

Solution

Water moves from high Ψw to low Ψw so Ψw of cell sap should be lower than the Ψw of soil solution if entry of water (endosmosis) in roots is required. Ψw of any solution is always less than Ψw of pure water.
