Question
The compound insoluble in acetic acid is :
Options
A.calcium oxide
B.caluium carbonate
C.calcium oxalate
D.calcium hydroxide
Solution
Calcium oxalate and hydroxide are basic in nature and hence they show acid-base reaction with acetic acid and hence are soluble in acetic acid. CaCO3 is salt of carbonic acid which is weaker acid than cetica acid and hence carbonates are decomposed by acetic acid. Because oxlic acid is stronger acid than acetc acid so oxalates are not decomposed by acetic acid, hence Ca-oxalate is insoluble in acetic acid
