Question
The radii of circular orbits of two satellites A and B of the earth are 4R and R, respectively. If the speed of satellite A is 3V, then the speed of satellite B will be
Options
A.

B.6 V
C.12 V
D.

Solution
Orbit speed of the satellite around the earth is
v =
Where,
G = Universal gravitational constant
M = Mass of the earth
r = radius of the orbit of the satellite
For satellite A
rA = 4R , vA = 3V
va =
......(i)
For satellite A
rB = R , vB = ?
vB =
......(ii)
Dividing equation (ii) by equation (i), we get
∴
vB = vA
Substiting the given values, we get
vB = 3V
vB = 6V
v =
Where,
G = Universal gravitational constant
M = Mass of the earth
r = radius of the orbit of the satellite
For satellite A
rA = 4R , vA = 3V
va =
......(i)For satellite A
rB = R , vB = ?
vB =
......(ii)Dividing equation (ii) by equation (i), we get
∴
vB = vA

Substiting the given values, we get
vB = 3V

vB = 6V
