Question
If due to some injury the chorde tendinae of the tricuspid valve of the human heart is partially non-functional, what will be the immediate effect ?
Options
A.The flow of blood into the aorta will be slowed down
B.The pacemaker will stop working
C.The blood will tend to flow back into the left atrium
D.the flow of blood into the pulmonary artery will be reduced
Solution
Strong, thread-like tendons, called chordae dendine, arise from papillary muscles and insert upon the flaps of triuspid and bicuspid valves. The valve in the heart allow the flow of blood only in one direction, ie, from the atria to the ventricles and from the ventricles to pulmonary artery or aorta. If chordae tendine of the tricuspid valve become partially non- functional due to injury then the flow of blood in to the pulmonary artery will be reduced.
