Question
A certain prism is found t produce a minimum deviation of 38o. It produces a deviation of 44o when the angle of incidence is either 42o or 62o. What is the angle of incidence when it is undergoing minimum deviation ?
Options
A.45o
B.49o
C.40o
D.55o
Solution
δmin = 38o ; δ = 44o ; i = 42o ⇒ e = 62o
δ = i + e - A ; 44 = 42 + 62 - A ⇒ A = 60o
∴ δmin = 2i - A ; 38 = 2i - 60 ⇒ i = 49o
δ = i + e - A ; 44 = 42 + 62 - A ⇒ A = 60o
∴ δmin = 2i - A ; 38 = 2i - 60 ⇒ i = 49o
