Question
In the figure acceleration of A is 1 m/s2 upwards, acceleration of B is 7 m/s2 upwards and acceleration of C is 2 m / s2 upwards. The acceleration of D will be

Options
A.7 m/s2 downwards
B.2 m/s2 downwards
C.10 m/s2 downwards
D.8 m/s2 downwards
Solution
a1 + a2 = 1
a1 - a2 = 7
a3 - a1 = 2
⇒ a1 = 4,
a2 = - 3,
a3 = 6
Acceleration of D = a1 + a3
= 4 + 6 = 10 ms-2 downwards
a1 - a2 = 7
a3 - a1 = 2
⇒ a1 = 4,
a2 = - 3,
a3 = 6
Acceleration of D = a1 + a3
= 4 + 6 = 10 ms-2 downwards
