Momentum and CollisionHard
Question
Two capillary tubes of same length l and radii r and 2r are fitted to the bottom of a vessel with pressure head p in parallel with each other. What should be the radius of the single tube of the same length l that can replace the two so that the rate of flow is not affected ?
Options
A.(17)1/4 r
B.17r
C.8.5 r
D.√17r
Solution
If R is the radius of single tube of length l, through which rate of flow of liquid under the same pressure head P is equal to Q1 + Q2. Then,
Q = Q1 + Q2

R4 = r4 + (2r)4 = 17r4
R = (17)1/4 r
Q = Q1 + Q2
R4 = r4 + (2r)4 = 17r4
R = (17)1/4 r
